This small ring Mauser was originally built by legendary gunmaker Dale Goens of New Mexico. The gun arrived in a used and worn condition. Since some changes were made to the finish on some of the parts, like color case hardening the rings and bolt shroud, it is not technically a restoration. All work was carefully done to the highest standards and at the client’s direction. The wood was refinished with a linseed oil topcoat over a permalyn sealer base. This gives good protection and preserves the original look to the wood. The checkering was re-cut. Rust bluing was used on the major metal components. Nitre Blue was used on many of the trim parts and screws. Color case hardening was done to add a touch of pizzazz to the over all look of the rifle. A new solid gold initial oval replaced the original for the new owners use. I suspect that Dale made this rifle in the early 1960’s, now it is ready for another 40 years of use by the new owner. All work, wood, metal and metal finishing was done by Norin. |
