Examples of Work

This L.C.Smith 16 gauge was built to the client’s dimensions and specifications. It is a light, fast handling game gun. Choked I.C. and I.M. it will work for Pheasants and quail. The wood is English walnut, checkered at 22lpi in a straight hand style and with a Pachmyer decelerator pad. The barrels are rust blued and the action is traditional bone charcoal color case hardened. Norin in his one-man shop did all work on this commission.

This small ring Mauser was originally built by legendary gunmaker Dale Goens of New Mexico. The gun arrived in a used and worn condition. Since some changes were made to the finish on some of the parts, like color case hardening the rings and bolt shroud, it is not technically a restoration. All work was carefully done to the highest standards and at the client’s direction. The wood was refinished with a linseed oil topcoat over a permalyn sealer base. This gives good protection and preserves the original look to the wood. The checkering was re-cut. Rust bluing was used on the major metal components. Nitre Blue was used on many of the trim parts and screws. Color case hardening was done to add a touch of pizzazz to the over all look of the rifle. A new solid gold initial oval replaced the original for the new owners use. I suspect that Dale made this rifle in the early 1960’s, now it is ready for another 40 years of use by the new owner. All work, wood, metal and metal finishing was done by Norin.

This Mauser is chambered in 9.3x62. The wood is English walnut from Steve Heilmann. It carries a tung oil finish and 22lpi checkering an ebony tip with a widows peak. The barrel is a Krieger and is 25 inches in length. The open sights are regulated for 50, 100 and 150 yards. The scope is a Leupold 3x9 and is in EAW quick release mounts. Fisher round bottom metal lends to the sleek stock lines. The NECG safety shroud offers the M-70 type safety arrangement.  Rust bluing was used on the major metal components. Color case hardening is on the grip cap, inletted swivel base and bolt shroud. Pins and screws are Nitre blued adding a splash of color. Norin did 100% of the metalsmiting, stockmaking, and metal finishing on this rifle. It is hallmarked by the ACGG.
